dear boy o’ mine,
this past week has been so (especially) nostalgic for me with these three little pullets ‘round here…
‘cause i can still hear you calling out into the dusky meadow each night…
“heeeere…chick, chick, chick! heeeey…duck, duck, duck!”
wooing all those fowl to come in where they’d be safe after dark…
and i can still see (especially) those little heads pop right up out of all that tall grass…and hurry just as fast as their waddle would let them right towards your voice…
those funny little ducks all in their straight row…
don’t you just miss all those blacks, and goatie-goats, and dogs, and cats, and ducks, and chickens…and silly…your mama’s one goose?
don’t you?
don’t you just miss all the feeding…and the watering…and the mucking…and (especially) the sometimes having to track them all down over all that whole property?
don’t you?
yes…i’m just so sure that you do!
i’m just so sure you miss all of that!
and i (especially) do too!

so…yeah…
:: that boy o’ mine took his little birthday brother for fries and a shake today…and william is sitting here next to me telling me all about it…
and he says that…
“when i’ya said if i wanted a “large fry”…
i thought he meant one really big fry…
but then i figured out that it was actually a tons of fries!”
so thankful he’s making memories with these little guys!

we three
dear bits and jack,
mama sure has been loving our time spent in your little fireside salon…
never tire of it…
of your asking “please” to do my hairs…
of your scooting right off to gather all of your “tools”…
of your styling…and snapshots…and starting all over…
of your little fingers running and running right through my hairs…
and i’m just altogether content to just sit there…and sit there…for as long as you’ll take…
‘till my back is all achy…and my legs are both sleeping…and my head is numb some…
for just as long as you’ll stay…
and as i’ve sat there…i’ve thought…
about how much i’ll miss this…come spring…when the fireplace goes cold for a season and your little fingers stop running…
and…
about how very much i’ll miss all of this…come just a too-short time from now…when my whole season of little fingers is through…
but…then…
the thought…
how…then…
maybe…your little people’s little fingers!
and…
oh, how wonderful that thought!
oh, how…just too wonderful…that would be!
then…
but for now…i’m utterly altogether content to sit…just right here…for just as long as you’ll stay…
